**Hawkeye Wrestlers Receive NWCA Scholar All-American Honors** **April 1, 2024** UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, Iowa City - The University of Iowa wrestling team has added another accolade to its impressive resume. Four Hawkeye wrestlers have been named NWCA Scholar All-Americans. The NWCA Scholar All-American award recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.2 and have placed high at the national tournament. This year, Hawkeyes Spencer Lee, Austin DeSanto, Carter Happel, and Max Murin received the honor. "We are incredibly proud of our wrestlers for their hard work and dedication both on and off the mat," said Hawkeye head coach Tom Brands. "These young men represent the very best of Iowa wrestling, and we are honored to have them as part of our program." This is the first time since 2019 that Iowa has had four or more NWCA Scholar All-Americans in a single season. The Hawkeyes have now had at least one Scholar All-American in each of the past 12 years. Iowa wrestlers have a history of academic excellence. The program has produced 81 Academic All-Americans, more than any other school. The Hawkeyes will return to action on April 8 at the NWCA National Duals.
